Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side.

Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played.

Heston lent his strong presence to some of the most acclaimed and successful films of the midcentury. Gas prices have risen to record levels in March thanks to soaring oil prices, which rose above $110/barrel for the first time. And if prices keep rising you can expect to see a big surge very soon when you are filling up your tank.

If gasoline prices move from their current average price of $3.20 to $5, the cost of fuel for a family that spends $50 a week for gas would move up over $1,000 a year. That would wipe out any tax rebate payments from the Federal government and drive the economy deeper into its currently slowdown. It would also further fracture already delicate P&Ls and balance sheet at large auto makers and airlines. Retailers would get less traffic. Very few industries would be spared some effect.

Gas at $5 is a strain the current economy can't withstand, but betting against it would be a bad idea.

Sprint To Bring On iPhone Clones

At a big mobile phone convention out in Las Vegas, Sprint has announced a new phone coming to market in June that looks so much like the Apple iPhone that it causes a doubletake. Called the Instinct and made by Samsung, the device does everything and more that the iPhone does but a lot faster.
The Instinct is about the same size and weight as the iPhone, though it's screen is just a tad smaller. But it's biggest claim to dame right now is that it will run on Sprint's super fast CDMA EV-DO Rev A network, The iPhone uses AT&T's pokey EDGE network. The Instinct also will ship with GPS-enabled audio and visual turn-by-turn driving direction, something the iPhone can't do.No price was announced but Sprint indicated it will be competitive with the $399 iPhone.

The Instinict goes on sale in June. But that's also when the latest 3g iPhone will come out, offering a faster replacement to the Edge and a host of new applications. Some Apple fan sites today are predicting the Sprint announcement may force Apple to move faster in releasing the next version of the iPhone, noting that current iPhone models are getting harder to buy. They suggest that's a prelude to the introduction of new models.
That logic seems a bit murky. But what is clear is that after a year's free ride as the most innovative personal technology device of the new century, the iPhone is going to get some serious competition.

A notable Joe appearance was at the AMAs when he fell through a glass window at the beginning of the song S.O.S. In January of 2008 he fell during a concert and hit his head. He was rushed to a local hospital and recived a few stiches.

Post Trauma Syndrome

Not too many people know of this topic unless you are most unfortunately a victim and experience this most difficult area.

I will be writing over the next few weeks about this topic for I have gone through and have fought back to over come such an area that will most likely haunt me for the rest of my life.

According to the American Psychiatric Association (1994), post traumatic stress disorder develops after someone is exposed to an extremely traumatic event and they reacted to the event with intense fear, horror or helplessness.

Such traumatic events include:
war
torture
rape
child sexual or physical assault
physical assault
being kidnapped
terrorism
a natural disaster (e.g. a bushfire, flood or cyclone)
a major car accident
being diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness e.g. cancer
finding the body of someone who has committed suicide or been murdered

The Intrusive Symptoms include:

Distressing thoughts or images
Nightmares about the event
Feeling or acting as if the traumatic event were recurring
intense psychological distress when exposed to something that triggers memories of the traumatic event.
Physical symptoms such as sweating, muscle tension and rapid heartbeat when exposed to things that trigger memories of the traumatic event.

The Avoidance Symptoms include:

Trying to avoid thinking or talking about the trauma, as well as any feelings associated with the trauma. PTSD sufferers may resort to alcohol or illicit drugs to block out unwanted memories & feelings. According to the Australian Centre for Post Traumatic Mental Health (1999), approximately 50% of men and 25% of women with chronic PTSD have drug and alcohol issues
Avoiding people, places and activities that trigger memories of the traumatic event.
not remembering an important part of the traumatic event
Losing interest in, and enjoyment of e.g. leisure activities, study, work or stop participating in such activities altogether.

Feeling detached from other people
Being unable to feel joy or have loving feelings
Not be able to see a future for themselves, they don't expect to get married, have a family , live a long time

The Physical Arousal Symptoms include:

Sleep disturbance
irritability or anger
impaired concentration
being always on the alert for signs of dangerThe PTSD sufferer may be constantly scanning their surroundings for possible threats, e.g. someone who has been in a major car accident may become a back seat driver. Someone who has been physically assaulted may always sit with their back to a wall so noone can sneak up behind them
being easily startled THE PTSD sufferer may overreact to something such as a noise. E.g. a war veteran may be shaken if they hear a car backfire because of their past experience of being threatened by gun fire).

Good Bye 2007

I have been counting the minutes to say GOOD BYE to the year 2007.

2007 was a year I will try to forget forever. It was a hard year. It was a sad year. It was the most difficult year of life for me. Life is not easy, nobody said it was. There were so many times I wanted to throw in the towel and quit but I didn't because I had the voice of a friend in my head telling me I could do it. That friend lives in Utah. I only met him a few times but I know he is a friend from the heart. His voice kept me moving foward telling me I was strong and not to give up.

I really pulled away from everyone in the year 2007 and I feel terrible about it.

I can only pray that the year 2008 brings health and happiness to me, my family and everyone else.

Thank you my friend in Utah for not giving up on me. You know who you are. Thank you for being a friend. There needs to be more people in the world like you!

Well, another year has flown by and tomorrow is another birthday I will be celebrating. Last year was awful for me. New house, life out of order, etc. etc.

This year I am praying will be much different. So far, I have my health, the kids are healthy and even the dog is too!

I used to think that celebrating a birthday was fun but for some reason as one gets older they are not fun or at least in my mind they are not fun.

I am going to go to bed tonight and wake up tomorrow and when I open my eyes, see the light peaking through the blinds, I will have known I survived another year of life!! That is it.....life...I thank God for every day I am here..sharing life with my kids.

On My Way Back with Aging Parents

I have been away forever and ever it feels like it.

I know this topic is near and dear to many people. I have to start somewhere when life feels like it's rough.

Aging parents. Yes, a subject we all do NOT want to face but it's there. My life has been on a nose dive this past year. I do NOT drink alcohol,never have nor do I have any plans to start but boy oh boy if I did, I think I would be a professional alcoholic with everything going on in my life these days.

I have a father that is in his 70's that went through major, major open heart surgery this past April, almost died but thankfully still here to talk about it. It does not help with a sibling located in California, a brother that is some where off in left field or perhaps resides on Mars. So everything is left on my shoulders along with raising two children on my own.

So just when I think one parent is on the road to recovery, BOOM, my Mother who is a post polio victim is now ill with her health. My Mom had polio when she just turned 16 that almost killed her. She was in a coma for 6 months, iron lung and more. Now that she just celebrated her 70Th birthday this past month, her health is going on a tail spin.

Apparently, her post polio syndrome has caused to have severe lung problems, a enlarged heart and more. Needless to say, it is all left on my shoulders. Sibling in California is still there and I believe my brother has jumped planets and resides on Pluto!!!

It's scary that as my parents hit 70 there health did a turn for the worse. Come on, 70 is NOT old these days.

Through all of this I am still trying to grow my business, take care of the kids, homeschool and be the driver for two aging parents, and everyone else.

I finally took time for Me today and had my hair highlighted. Through all of this I felt guilty taking time for me.

November brings the holidays in full motion. Months I wish I could skip; like Thanksgiving, my birthday, and on to Christmas.

I know I have to be strong and not give up.

Common Chemicals: Breast Cancer Link

Pesticides. Plastics. Cosmetics. Deodorants. Cookware. Stain-resistant furniture. Computers.

What do all these seemingly unrelated items have in common?

At one time or another, all have been suspected of increasing the risk of breast cancer.

The important point to recognize is that most researchers agree that there are no solidly proven links between these -- or other similar environmental factors -- and the risk of breast cancer.

The troubling aspect of this, however, is that many believe it's just a matter of time before we connect the scientific dots and see a picture of increased risk.

"It's true that we have no direct links. But what we do have is a compilation of epidemiological studies, cell culture studies, and animal data that are all consistent and I believe are coming together to show us that some of what women are exposed to every day may be increasing their risk of breast cancer," says Janet Gray, PhD, professor and chairman of the department of psychology at Vassar College. Gray, together with experts from the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, recently compiled a report on what we know thus far about the environmental links to breast cancer.

Gray says that while there may be no smoking gun that implicates any one area of concern, or even one chemical, she says the evidence is starting to mount indicating that steady, personal exposure to low levels of lots of different chemicals does matter.

"What's really new in this field," says Gray, is that "finally people are starting to look at interactions -- and the fact that exposure to low doses of lots of different chemicals may yield a result similar to a high-dose exposure to one chemical."

Our Chemical Exposure
And just how many chemicals are we exposed to on regular basis? According to Richard Wiles, senior vice president of the Environmental Working Group (EWG), more than you might imagine.

He reports that an ongoing EWG monitoring project which regularly tests blood, cord blood, urine, and breast milk from 72 adults has so far identified the presence of 455 chemicals that should not be in the body.

"If you had one or two you would say not a big deal. But you can't say that the whole 455 aren't doing something harmful to the body. That just doesn't seem plausible," says Wiles.

Moreover, he reports that a recent EWG survey of some 2,300 Americans found that the average adult is exposed to 126 chemicals every day -- just in their personal care product use alone.

"One in every 13 women is exposed to a known or a probable human carcinogen every day, with one in every 24 women -- or 4.3 million total -- exposed to personal care ingredients that are known or probable reproductive and developmental toxins," says Wiles.

But does this mean there is a direct environmental route from chemical exposure to breast cancer?

"Is there a direct connection we can make between the use of these products and breast cancer?" asks Julia Smith, MD. "No. But there are strong scientific suspicions that some of the chemicals found in the environment, including those used in cosmetics and other personal care items, might increase the risk, especially if there is heavy exposures before the age of 25." Smith is the director of breast cancer screening and prevention and of the Lynne Cohen Breast Cancer Preventive Care Program at NYU Cancer Institute and Bellevue Medical Center in New York City.

How Breast Cancer Develops
Though the lines between environmental assaults and breast cancer may be somewhat blurred, understanding a bit more about how breast cancer occurs brings at least some of the suspicions into focus.

As Smith explains, breast cancer doesn't happen overnight -- or even as the result of one chemical exposure. It is, in fact, a long and arduous process that begins years before you discover that lump in your breast.

"Problems usually begin when something goes awry in breast tissue on a cellular level many years earlier," says Smith.

Every healthy cell in our body goes through a life cycle that involves growth and division -- a process known as mitosis. That process, says Smith, is controlled by multiple factors. These include a number of genes that tell the cells to grow and those that tell them to stop growing.

If something happens which damages this process, Smith says, cells can begin growing out of control.

"Over time, these cells come together to form a tumor -- the lump you find in your breast," says Smith.

So what does all this have to do with the environment? Many doctors believe that exposure to certain chemicals may damage one or more of the "control" genes, thus putting the cancer process in motion.

"We don't have any clear evidence yet that this is what's happening, but it's one of the possibilities," says Smith.

Though almost any woman has the potential to be affected, experts now believe those at greatest risk are young women -- between puberty and age 25.

Why? These are the years when breast tissue is developing, and, says Smith, is most susceptible to outside influences.

Smith tells WebMD that women won't see the effect right away. But exposures, which occur during these early years, may launch a domino effect of cellular activity that can eventually result in breast cancer.

This is much the same thinking that led researchers to conclude that the cellular damage that occurs as the result of a sunburn before age 17 starts a process that can end up as a deadly melanoma skin cancer decades later.

The Role of Genetics
While every woman has at least the potential to succumb to environmental influences, not every one will. What makes the difference? Our genetics -- the individual blueprint that governs how every cell in our body is supposed to act.

"Inside each cell is all our genetic material -- the total number of genes from both parents," says Smith. The genes that are "expressed," she says, are those that we see -- for example, blue eyes or brown hair.

But what we see is only a small portion of our genetic makeup. Most of what is in our cells is "unexpressed" -- including our risk for certain diseases.

And while there are some clear-cut genetic links to breast cancer that a woman can inherit, this group makes up a relatively small segment of the breast cancer population.

What is likely to affect many more of us, says Smith, is a genetic predisposition -- a gene that is lying dormant in our body that, when awakened by some circumstance, increases the risk for breast cancer.

"Once the gene is aroused, it begins to express itself -- and that expression can cause the kind of cellular changes that eventually lead to cancer," says Smith.

Reducing Risks: What Women Can Do
While we can't change our genetics, experts say we can, to some extent, control our environment.

And while you may be thinking this means avoiding carcinogens -- chemicals known to cause cancer -- experts say when it comes to breast cancer, of far greater concern is exposure to what are called "endocrine disrupters." These are chemicals and byproducts that, when inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin, can either mimic the effects of estrogen in the body or cause estrogen to act in a way that isn't normal.

Since it is estrogen that can spark the growth of many tumors, Gray says anything that interferes with estrogen metabolism has the potential to cause harm.

"These chemicals cause a 'triple whammy' -- they increase levels of estrogen, alter cell metabolism, and influence the pathways that increase the risk of cancer," says Gray.

Antiperspirants and Breast Cancer
Based on a recent study in the Journal of Applied Toxicology, cancer researcher Philippa Darbre, PhD, of the University of Reading in England, says the evidence is mounting that the aluminum-based active ingredient in antiperspirants can mimic estrogen in the body.

At the same time, in a report released in 2004, officials with the National Cancer Institute wrote that there was "no conclusive research" linking the use of underarm antiperspirants or deodorants to breast cancer.

And the American Cancer Society (ACS) says that most research on environmental links to breast cancer remains unproven and that research linking deodorant use to breast cancer remains weak.

Many believe that it is environmental exposures -- including chemicals -- that can awaken at least some of those dormant genes and put a woman on the cellular path to breast cancer.

Environmental groups claim some children's bath products contain a suspected cancer-causing chemical in amounts that reach or exceed safe limits. The chemical in question -- 1,4-dioxane -- is found in products made by companies such as Johnson and Johnson, Disney, Kimberly-Clark, and Gerber, says David Steinman, head of the environmental publishing company Freedom Press.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calls this chemical, already known to cause cancer in animals, a probable human carcinogen. But there is no real regulation on the petroleum-derived chemical and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) only recommends cosmetic companies limit the concentration of 1,4-dioxane to 10 parts per million (ppm).

Studies show Johnson's Kids Shampoo Watermelon Explosion contains the maximum recommended level of 10 ppm. They also reveal that Kid Care's Hello Kitty Bubble Bath contains 12.3 ppm of the chemical. And two adult shampoos have been found to have twice the recommended level of this chemical that is typically a manufacturing by-product.

It's been reported that nearly 57 percent of all baby soaps contain 1,4-dioxane. But Iris Grossman, director of communications at Johnson and Johnson, stresses that all of her products are within FDA limits.

Cancer is not the only risky link to children's bath products. It seems these items are also linked to early puberty development. And this is concerning because a fast-paced growth rate combined with children's porous skin increases susceptibility to toxins that can enter the bloodstream. One breast cancer expert says an increase in breast cancer risk is linked to toxic exposures during the formative years of life.

What's a Hamster To Do?

I swear the kids are not going to turn my hair white but our black bear hamster-Pebbles is going to age me.

Pebbles may be a black bear hamster but I am starting to believe that she is part magical.

This morning Kasey awoke and came running in my room asking me why I would knock over 10 American Girl dolls off of her dresser and then pull out her leotards from an open drawer? I looked at her and said "Why would I knock over 10 American Girl Dolls valued at $100 a piece?" "Especially when I paid for each doll." The value in my book is $1000. NO WAY CHILD!

Then I started wondering, perhaps she is sleep walking in the middle of the night and did not realize what she did. I even had Kasey convinced that perhaps she is sleep walking. Sounded good, didn't it?

Then about 1:30pm I hear Kasey screaming from her room that Pebbles is not in her cage. If I didn't see it with my own eyes I would think someone stole that hamster..but that hamster used her body and pushed open the top of this Critter Trail cage thus making her an escape artist.

I am surprised our Golden Retriever, Riley didn't find her and eat her!!! Needless to say, Pebbles is the one that knocked over the American Girl dolls, trashing the room with her weight. We had to take everything out of the dresser to move it...everything out from under the bed and an hour later we caught that monster. Pebbles is larger than most hamsters...more on the rat size minus the long nose and ugly tails that rats have.

The moral of the story is that Pebbles is now on lock down with duct tape on the Critter Trail cage....

IF and I do say IF that hamster tries to escape I am sending her to the the hamster factory.

I keep going back to that Ground Hog....not only did the Detroit area get hit with a major snow storm..the weather people were WRONG TOO.

The weather people said only 7 inches of snow...not the 2 feet of snow that fell over night causing EVERY school to be closed.

So on this Valentine's Day being snowed in the house; having terrible cabin fever; etc. etc...what else is there to do? Pretend I am somewhere warm? Wishful thinking is what I say.

Making the best of this snow...and getting every piece of snow gear on and going out in the 10 degree weather and begin digging out.

I say let's fire the Ground Hog.

I really want to talk with this ground hog from PA!! I was counting on this ground hog to bring an early spring.

The news did say the ground hog predicts an early spring. Yah, sure, what country? Today is February 13, 2007, and we are getting hit with our first heavy storm with a foot of new snow. To me, an early spring means NOW!!

Snow is beautiful but just how much snow can we take? I feel for the people in NY...I have cabin fever and want SUMMER.

Nearly one in three Americans (more than 65 million) are affected
by high blood pressure, and a third of those individuals don't even
know that they are affected by the condition. It's no wonder high
blood pressure is referred to as "The Silent Killer."

This month's report focuses on high blood pressure and the natural
way you can maintain healthy blood pressure by using Melaleuca's

Commonly Prescribed Medication for High Blood Pressure
In 90–95 percent of cases, research scientists don't know what causes high blood pressure, but fortunately they know enough to have developed both drug and non-drug products to treat it effectively 9.

A wide variety of medications are available to medical professionals for treating high blood pressure. Although other classes of medications are sometimes prescribed, the most commonly prescribed can be broken down into five different classes of medications that work in different ways to lower pressure.

Diuretics (water pills) work in the kidney to get rid of excess water and sodium.
Beta-Blockers reduce nerve impulses to the heart and blood vessels to cause the heart to beat more slowly and with less force.
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors prevent the formation of a hormone called angiotensin II, which would otherwise cause vessels to narrow.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARB) block the action of angiotensin II.
Calcium Channel Blockers prevent calcium from entering the muscle cells of the heart and blood vessels, causing blood vessels to relax.10
As of June, 2005, there didn't appear to be much global agreement among medical experts worldwide in terms of recommended first-line therapy for treating high blood pressure 11. I think it is important to note that in June, 2006, The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and the British Hypertension Society have come to an agreement within the UK, and have issued new guidelines, including important changes to help guide primary care physicians in determining first-line therapy 12. A major change is that Beta-Blockers, which have been shown to be less effective in preventing strokes and more likely to cause diabetes, are no longer recommended as routine treatment for the majority of people with high blood pressure. Instead, ACE Inhibitors (or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers if there are side effects) are now recommended in the UK for most people, with some exceptions, before trying other classes of medication for hypertension.

As with any medication, there may be side effects from taking ACE Inhibitors, and some should not use them at all, including black people of any age 12. According to the Mayo Clinic, a study published by the New England Journal of Medicine, also in June, 2006, indicated an increased risk of birth defects in children whose mothers took ACE inhibitors during the first trimester, adding to the known risks during the second and third trimesters 12, 13. While most people can tolerate ACE Inhibitors, some may experience side effects such as cough, elevated blood potassium levels, low blood pressure, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, abnormal taste (metallic or salty taste), and rash. Rare, but more serious side effects include kidney failure, allergic reactions, a decrease in white blood cells, and swelling of tissues (angioedema) 14.

Very similar to ACE Inhibitors are ARB medications, and depending on the individual’s particular health issues, a doctor may switch between the two, and may sometimes prescribe both 15. The most common side effects with ARBs are cough, elevated potassium levels, low blood pressure, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, diarrhea, abnormal taste sensation (metallic or salty taste), and rash. Compared to ACE inhibitors, cough occurs less often with ARBs. The most serious, but rare, side effects are kidney failure, liver failure, allergic reactions, a decrease in white blood cells, and swelling of tissues (angioedema) 16.

On January 19, 2007, Rush University Medical Center reported findings that ACE Inhibitors and ARBs prevent people from getting diabetes, and that diuretics and beta-blockers increase the chance that a person becomes diabetic. The authors pointed out that more studies are required to determine whether new-onset diabetes leads to as many heart attacks, strokes or death, as long-standing diabetes. However, their data suggests that the differences between antihypertensive drugs regarding the risk for new-onset diabetes are real and are significant17.

Is Chivalry Dead?

There are a great many burdens to shoulder in the modern world and surely one of them is whether or not we adhere to social mores. The challenge is whether we successfully can adapt to how the world actually functions in the face of what we learned as children.

For men, one of the biggest obstacles is whether they should still incorporate the virtues of chivalry into their daily behavior. Chivalry is a practice that is in transition and may be, in a hundred years, just another quaint artifact of an obsolete age- like the horse and buggy are to us today.

Males are currently taught that women´s equality has negated the need for chivalry. It seems our attempts to be chivalrous can be interpreted as attempts to assert superiority and return women to an inferior position in our polity. Chivalry was once deemed an obvious virtue but now it is shrouded in controversy. I feel that to abandon the practice of chivalry is to abandon something sacred on this earth.

The sans culottes of the sexual revolution made chivalry one of the first male behaviors to be attacked and deconstructed. In the airheads of the mad crew that embroiled our nation in so much suffering since the sixties, males opening doors or standing up as women entered rooms could only have been the result of a wicked plot to demean and subordinate 51 percent of the population. In fact, nothing was further from the truth. The act of deferring to women is an act of celebration and not of derogation. In my opinion, the radical feminists who laid siege to chivalry also laid siege to the basis of respect between the sexes.

In my opinion, chivalry should be taught to all young boys, south or north, east or west coast. Just because females are capable of doing things for themselves it is still nice when a man opens the door for a woman, etc. etc.

Without reinforcement, chivalry will soon be extinguished for all time.

Holiday Parking

As the holiday's approach the parking lots at the mall, stores are growing into parking wars.

WHY is everyone in such a hurry? Why do people have to fight over a parking space? Has this happened to you? You drive around numerous times searching and seeking a parking space. All of a sudden, boom, you spot a car backing out. So the polite thing to do is turn on your direction signal to let other cars know that you plan to pull into this space when free. Apparently, in Michigan drivers have NOT learned what a direction signal means.

The other day, I found a parking space and turned on my direction signal to pull into the parking space. Just as I was about to make the turn a car pulls out from nowhere and RAMS into MY SPACE. HOW RUDE!

The driver from the other vehicle had the nerve to give me a dirty look. I was NOT going to argue but it sure does make me upset that people have NO common sense these days with holiday parking.

A Little Girl's Dream Comes True!

What is it like to have an inspiration, goals, dreams at age 11? I know when I was 11 years old I was still playing with hot wheel cars with the boys in my neighborhood.

September 2006, try outs took place. Kasey had an inspiration to dance with the Joffrey Ballet Company. Nothing is handed to her on a silver platter. Hard work and focus is what landed Kasey the role in the party scene.

Working hard, rehearsing every week paid off. Kasey shined with the Joffrey Ballet Company.

As for me, I am exhausted ....7 shows in 4 days...harder on the adult than the child. As long as she pursues her dream I will support her in any way.

Joffrey kept intact the memorable Tchaikovsky score and the coming-of-age story of young Clara, who in a dream, is led by the Nutcracker Prince to the Land of Sweets. But he added American touches, including sets and costumes that look like 19th-century Currier & Ives postcards and American dances such as the Virginia Reel.

Added charm comes from puppets Muppet designer Kermit Love created and a finale in which the heroine flies off in a hot-air balloon. Flower and snowflake waltzes, which have been choreographed in neoclassic style by current artistic director Gerald Arpino, supply contemporary notes.

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.!

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Homeschooling and the Myth of Socialization

One of the silliest and most annoying comments made to homeschooling parents is, "Aren't you concerned about how your child will be able to socialize with others?". What is being implied here is that the homeschooled child is some kind of introverted misfit who cannot relate to other people, children, and the outside world. In reality, most of the homeschooled children that I have known and met are not only outgoing, but polite and respectful, too. This is a sharp contrast to the public school children that I have known, who can't relate to adults and whose behavior is rude and inconsiderate. Realistically, there are some exceptions on both sides.

Isn't it interesting that amid all of the public school shootings over the past few years, the only comment that opponents of homeschooling can come up with is the red herring of "socialization"? You may have noticed, there haven't been shootings at private schools, or shootings inside of the homes of homeschooled children.

Opponents of homeschooling can't complain about average test scores, since homeschooled children consistently outscore public school children, so they instead make a problem that doesn't exist.

Who is responsible for creating this "socialization" problem? This myth has been perpetrated by sociologists, psychologists, public school administrators, the NEA (and local teacher's unions), etc., whenever they comment on homeschooling to the news media. These are the same people who give Ritalin (a very strong narcotic) and other drugs to schoolchildren, in place of discipline.

In order for children to become assimilated into society properly, it is important to have a variety of experiences and be exposed to differing opinions and views. This enables them to think for themselves and form their own opinions. This is exactly what public education does not want; public education is for the lowest common denominator and influencing all of the students to share the same views ("group-think") and thought-control through various means, including peer-pressure.

Homeschooling allows parents the freedom to associate with other interested parties, visit local businesses, museums, libraries, etc. as part of school, and to interact with people of all ages in the community. For example, my son goes on field trips with other homeschooling families in our community. He recently was able to visit an audiologist, a McDonald's restaurant (to see how they run their operation), and several other similar activities. He gets to meet and talk to people of different ages doing interesting (and sometimes not so interesting) occupations. He spends a lot of his free time with kids older and younger than himself, and adults from twenty to over ninety years old.

Meanwhile, in public school, children are segregated by age, and have very little interaction with other adults, except their teacher(s). This environment only promotes alienation from different age groups, especially adults. This is beginning to look like the real socialization problem.

In conclusion, homeschooling parents choose to homeschool for a variety of reasons, but I have never heard any homeschooling parent say that the reason they want to homeschool is to isolate their child from all of society. But, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for homeschooled children to stay away from public school administrators, the NEA members, sociologists, and others who cannot properly "socialize" with children.

Go to your local public school, walk down the hallways and see what behaviors you would want your child to emulate.

Breaking News: Legend Bo Schembechler Dies Day Before BIG Game

Although I am NOT a "Michigan Fan" I will pay my respects to the legend of Bo Schembechler. Sad to announce that he died today, Novemember 17, 2006. The day before the BIG game of Michigan vs Ohio State. Both teams are undefeated.

Bo Schembechler, who became one of college football's great coaches in two decades at Michigan, died Friday after taping a TV show on the eve of the Wolverines' No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown with perennial rival Ohio State. He was 77.

Schembechler collapsed at the studios at WXYZ-TV in the Detroit suburb of Southfield and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. His death at 11:42 a.m. was confirmed by Mike Dowd, chief investigator for the medical examiner's office in Oakland County.

Police were sent to the station around 9:25 a.m. along with the city's fire department and escorted an ambulance to Providence Hospital, Southfield police spokesman John Harris said.

"It was probably not a heart attack; it just stopped working," Dr. Shukri David said.

Schembechler had a heart attack on the eve of his first Rose Bowl in 1970 and another one in 1987. He had two quadruple heart-bypass operations, and doctors implanted a pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat after he became ill during a taping at WXYZ on Oct. 20.

Schembechler's signature moment as athletic director probably came in March 1989, when basketball coach Bill Frieder accepted a job at Arizona State on the eve of the NCAA tournament.

An angry Schembechler declared, "A Michigan man will coach Michigan, not an Arizona State man." He refused to accept Frieder's 21-day notice and named assistant Steve Fisher as interim coach.

The Wolverines went on to win the national championship by beating Seton Hall 80-79 in overtime.

Schembechler was born April 1, 1929 in Barberton, Ohio. He graduated in 1951 from Miami of Ohio and earned a master's degree in 1952 at Ohio State, where he served until 1953 as a graduate assistant under Hayes.

After serving in the Army, Schembechler held assistant coaching jobs at Presbyterian College in 1954 and Bowling Green in 1955, then joined Ara Parseghian's staff at Northwestern in 1958 before returning to Ohio State as an assistant to Hayes.

Schembechler was named head coach at Miami in 1963, winning two Mid-American Conference titles in six seasons. In 1969, he took over a Michigan program that had posted six losing seasons over the previous 11 years. He did not have a losing season at either school.

Schembechler worked as an ABC Sports football broadcaster and analyst in 1991-92 and was a popular motivational speaker for many years.

Schembechler was inducted into the Miami University Hall of Fame in 1972, the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, the University of Michigan Hall of Honor in 1992, the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1993 and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1993.

Bo and Millie Schembechler had one son, Glenn III. Schembechler and his second wife, Cathy, married in 1993.

Smoking is one of the worst things kids or adults can do to their bodies.

I will NEVER understand a smoker..NEVER!!! WHY in the world would anyone want this bad habit that gives you?

Most people at least say they would like to preserve the environment and everyone seems to speak out against industrial pollution or the green house affect. But what about right at home? Have you ever considered how many household contaminants you have lurking around your home that could be poisoning your family, without you even knowing it? Some of the stats we will share with you on this site will shock you. They are not intended to frighten you, as much as they are intended to inform you as to one of the most important factors we believe is contributing to sickness and disease in many households today.

You should begin by thinking of your home as a toxic waste dump. The average home today contains over 62 toxic chemicals more than the average chemistry lab at the turn of the last century. Since WWII over 70,000 synthetic chemicals have been produced, of which, fewer than 2% have been tested for carcinogenic, mutagenic or birth defects in humans. And, by far, the majority of these chemicals have never been tested for the affects of long-term exposure at all.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted a survey which concluded that inside air quality in our homes in North America was anywhere from 3 to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air quality. Further studies by the EPA showed that airborne chemicals in the home were 3 times more likely to cause cancer than those chemicals found in the air outside. With most people today spending 90% of their time indoors, is it any wonder that cancer rates have doubled in the last 30 years?
Speaking of cancer, it has now become the #1 cause of death for children in North America.

Early similar surveys show that cancer has now become the #1 killer of women between the ages of 35 and 54.
These 2 groups of people spend a lot of time at home indoors and some of the primary suspected causes are linked to household products such as cleaners, laundry detergents and pesticides like those you might find in a can of common householddisambiguatet.

Bleach, for example, has been linked to cancer, reproductive problems and brain function abnormalities such as those in children with learning and behavioral problems, like ADD or ADHD. There has been a united US/Canadian Commission lobbying to have bleach banned from household use for some time now, but the multi billion dollar manufacturing companies have a very powerful and financially persuasive lobby that has been successful in preventing that so far.

Since 1980, asthma rates have increased by 600% in North America, with household cleaners, laundry detergents and cosmetics among the prime suspects and known asthma triggers.

Think about what's in the air we breathe. Walk down the aisle at your local supermarket or drug store that houses all the cleaners and take a deep breath - if you can. Still think there's nothing to any of this?

Chemicals get into our bodies 3 ways:Inhalation (we breathe 10,000-20,000 liters of air per day)
Ingestion (think of the pesticides used on your food)
Absorption through our skin (there is a reason they sell stop-smoking and weight loss patches to stick on your skin the ingredients get absorbed!)

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health has Found more than 2,500 chemicals in cosmetics that are toxic, may cause tumors, reproductive complications, biological mutations as well as skin and eye irritation.

Currently, in both Canada and the United States, labeling laws do not protect the consumer but rather big business. For example, Pesticides commonly used in the home and around the garden are only required by law to list the active ingredients, on the label. Up to 99% of the contents are usually inert(meaning inactive) ingredients many of which are toxic or poisonous.

The body often stores chemicals in fatty tissue. The brain is a primary target for these destructive organics as it has a high fat content and a very rich blood supply to transport the chemicals there.

Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Lupus, MS, Alzheimer, Parkinson, Disease, ADD and ADHD,IBS, Depression and Arthritis are just a few of the diseases and conditions that are now believed to be connected, at least in part, with some chemical exposure.
